LASIK Eye Surgery

A Cutting-Edge Vision Correction Method

LASIK, short for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, represents a pioneering laser refractive surgery celebrated for its exceptional ability to rectify vision problems, presenting an alternative to glasses or contact lenses.

Overview

By reshaping the cornea, LASIK ensures precise refraction of light onto the retina, effectively addressing conditions such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

LASIK offers a viable solution for a range of vision problems, which encompass:

  • Myopia (Nearsightedness): Corrects blurry distance vision.

  • Hyperopia (Farsightedness): Enhances clarity for near and sometimes far vision.

  • Astigmatism: Restructures the unevenly curved cornea to improve focus.

If you are currently reliant on glasses or contact lenses, your ophthalmologist will evaluate whether LASIK or another refractive procedure suits your specific needs.

Procedure Steps:

Application of Anesthetic Drops: Numbing eye drops are administered beforehand to ensure patient comfort.

Eyelid Securement: An instrument holds the eyelids open, facilitating the subsequent steps.

Creation of Corneal Flap: A suction ring is applied to create a corneal flap for access.

Laser Reshaping: With the use of a precisely programmed laser, the cornea is reshaped.

Replacement of Corneal Flap: The corneal flap is repositioned, typically healing without stitches.

Focusing on the Light: Patients concentrate on a point of light to assist laser-guided corneal reshaping.

Following LASIK surgery, patients usually experience an immediate improvement in distance vision.

While some initial haziness or discomfort might occur, eyesight stabilizes within a few days.

Any itching or burning sensations are common but temporary.

General anesthesia is required for this procedure.

The surgery gently corrects bone, cartilage, and tissue, followed by the use of resorbable sutures on the mucosa.

Post-surgery, cotton pads and a fixation splint become part of the nose's aftercare ensemble.

The recovery period after LASIK is short, allowing most daily activities to resume within a day.

Adjustments to one's lifestyle may include refraining from eye makeup for a few weeks, avoiding contact sports for approximately four weeks, and using protective eyewear at night.
