Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty, also known as vaginal tightening or vaginal reconstruction, is a surgical procedure designed to tighten, reconstruct, or restore the vagina's original form.

This elective cosmetic or reconstructive plastic surgery is often tailored to individual needs and can be coupled with other genital surgeries such as labiaplasty or hymenorrhaphy.

The Vaginoplasty Procedure

Step 1 – Sculpting Vaginal Muscles

Excess vaginal mucosa along the vaginal lining is delicately removed, reducing the size of the vaginal muscles. This process involves the creation of a vagina and vulva using existing genital tissue.

Step 2 – Enhancing Strength and Control

Vaginoplasty contributes to improved tone in vaginal muscles, fostering enhanced strength, contraction, and control. The stretched posterior vaginal wall muscles are meticulously joined and shortened using absorbable sutures.

Different techniques of vaginoplasty

McIndoe Surgical Technique: Enhancing the appearance of the vagina by surgically constructing a canal, often requiring a skin graft from other parts of the body.

Vecchietti Procedure: A modern laparoscopic technique producing a vagina similar to a natural one in depth and width.

Scars from vaginoplasty remain discreetly concealed within the vagina, ensuring the aesthetic outcome is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Vaginoplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia, ensuring a pain-free experience. Local anesthesia can be an alternative, often administered with sedation during the operation.

This intricate procedure generally takes about an hour, with the possibility of an overnight hospital stay for recovery.

Vaginoplasty is tailored for women who aim to improve vaginal tone, especially those experiencing stress urinary incontinence.

It's not recommended for pregnant women, but those who have recently given birth may consider the procedure after a suitable waiting period.

Following vaginoplasty, immediate changes include a reduction in the diameter of the vagina and increased density of vaginal muscles. This restores the vagina and its supporting structures to a pre-pregnancy state.

Recovery varies, with pain and swelling expected initially.

Comfortable walking is usually possible after a few days, and sexual activity can typically resume within two months.

Return to work is anticipated within a week, with the final results manifesting within two to three weeks post-surgery.
